The Castillo del Príncipe (Prince's Castle), is an architectural marvel in the Corcubión Estuary, built in 1740 under the reign of the Bourbons along with the Castelo do Cardeal, its twin fortress on the opposite bank. Named in honor of the son of Carlos III, the future Carlos IV, this military bastion housed 88 soldiers and was equipped with 12 pieces of artillery facing the sea to defend the coast from possible invasions.
